I never had any doubts, after listening to him aft all these yrs in many diff situations...heck, Joe's Garage, SUNPYG, Vanelli's Nightwalker, & Sting discs & live [while not of this genre, still-] explained it all WAY back...look, a 'fusion' ['many diff styles'] guy of VC's calibre can play a lot of diff styles convincingly...you can just HEAR it, no matter what genre you're listening to, that he would be very capable of...i had no doubt whatsoever, ever [not that most of you in here did, either] ;c)...

What I really like about Vinnie, is that no matter how much you listen to him, or how many records with him you have, he always find ways to surprise you......
IMO very few players can do that (and at that level), especially after so many years (and records, tapes, videos etc.).

There is the quote from Tony when he remarks about true musicians and versatility. Where he talks of playing a pop gig one day, country the next, metal on the next day, then jazz...
When i talked to him after a clinic he used that quote, he termed it as "I want to be able to play a country gig and then the next day play with Megadeth..."
I guess we can now shorten that quote to just six letters: VINNIE!
It's hi-larious to think about Vinnie recording this shit with traditional grip.

Not surprised at all, but still can't deny the AWE of actually listening to him doing it. Making you realise how great he really is... Once again.
I'm as big a Vinnie fan as anybody but I CAN'T BELIEVE WHAT I'M READING HERE!
Ostracize me from HOD----I've listened to that track over and over and that's some of the lamest playing I've ever heard Vinnie do. Somebody tell me the EXACT second he plays some slick stuff in Kick The Chair. Double bass with some cymbal accents, gimme a break!
Charisma me, give me the Pasqua bootleg anyday, slug me with the Chick Corea stuff, exile me to Zappa Island, this is Unreel.
Vinnie wears a lot of hats, agreed, some of them crowns, but this ain't what everybody's purporting it to be.
Convincingly means (to me)... He's playing it according to what the style is calling for. He is NOT a Metal specialist, that's for sure. But I listen to that track and I hear Metal Drumming... He's not smoking with his Double Bass in a Donati kinda way, but yet, he still delivers what the tune is calling for... No one is saying that this is THE BEST Metal Drumming around... At least, I am not saying that. It's the fact that he is an awesome Chameleon and that tune demonstrates that.
Some could say the same of his Latin playing, he's no El Negro, but he can still make a convincing statement in Latin, so can he make one playing Metal.
As you said so well Five Eight, he wears crowns and hats... Not many drummers can claim the same achievments.
Of course he's not going to sound like he's playing with Pasqua. This is Vinnie in a musical setting so far left of what he has been doing recently that it's a nice breath of fresh air . I'm sure he's playing for the producer as well.
He's really taking a chance (with his career) with this one and I think he sounds great for the gig and I believe it's going to help him actually turn on a younger demographic.
It's not a blowing recording but I bet -
on a live gig he would smoke all of the 16 year olds out of the stadium.
and definately some of us older folk! I just don't expect him to tour with this band.
I'd love to see him play this live to see how many liberties he would take! It would bring heavy/speed/thrash/hardcore/fullbore metal (or whatever it's called these days) to new heights if they would let him go.
Think about all the records he's been on and this one is just so far left. We at HOD are lucky to hear some of the finer drummistic moments of Vinnie and are wayyyyyyyy spoilt.
Remember, he's played with Paul Anka, Faith Hill, Celine Dion, Barry Manilow to make a living- not to mention the Zappas and Chicks etc...
I'm glad he's had a chance to play with these guys ! -And so late in his career.
I think it's kewl.
Word on the street is that Mustaine asked Vinnie if he'd be up for a tour, and Vinnie said yes.
He's playing exactly what he needs to and is supposed to. Tell me the slick stuff he plays with Faith Hill and with SheDaisy? There aren't Vinnie-isms all over the place, what you hear is the drum part that FITS the music. I give him props for not gettin' all "Vinnie" all over the track; setting aside the chops to play what is the right drum part for a Megadeth tune. I would do something dumb like try and shred the shit all over a metal tune, not Vinnie, he's too good for that.
